CITL Faculty Development Program

The CITL team is dedicated to the advancement of teaching within the university. The growing importance of and expectation for innovative teaching techniques, learning mediated by technology, and service to the millenial student make clear the need for formal Faculty Development practices. We are committed to providing the scaffolding upon which GW faculty may rise to these new challenges.

We take a holistic approach toward Faculty Development utilizing many of the programs and services that have been provided for many years by our unit.

The CITL Faculty Development Model is the result of consultation and discussion amongst several faculty at GW and the staff of the CITL.  The purpose was to develop a coherent, holistic model that outlines the myriad ways in which a faculty member can continue to develop as a researcher, teacher, and person.

Below is a brief sketch of the CITL Faculty Development Program.

Assessment

Gathering objective and subjective information and perspectives from our faculty colleagues provides a natural starting point. A variety of methods will be used to project further programmatic directions:

  • Formal surveys
  • Interviews
  • Focus groups

Innovation Learning

It's more than just technology training! Faculty colleagues will have the opportunity to learn from a classroom environment, online, as well as from each other. Some examples of how learning can take place are through:

Design Support

While innovation is being implemented by our faculty colleagues, we will provide support to help assure the quality of learning through a number of avenues:

Follow-on Learning

With special attention placed on the first phase of the Faculty Development Program, more information needs to be gathered to ascertain what additional services may be necessary moving ahead. For example:

  • Mid-semester faculty interviews
  • Student evaluation
  • Course re-design consultation
